Since I volunteered to cook the turkey for this year’s family gathering (we’re celebrating the holiday on Friday), I think I’m going to try this recipe I stumbled across. It definitely sounds like a neat twist on the old favorite.
Also for some more Turkey cooking tips, it might be worth tuning in tomorrow to NPR to listen to The Splendid Table for their show “Turkey Confidential” (10 a.m.-12 Central time)
The turkey turned out really well. I did make a few changes to the recipe though.
* I left out the cumin (I forgot to buy it).
* I used garlic flakes instead of fresh garlic (grocery store didn’t have any cloves).
* I used key lime juice instead of lemon juice. I also probably used a little bit less than the recipe called for.
* I used a bit more wine than the recipe called for. (I went with a Tisdale Chardonay)
Overall though, I thought the turkey had a nice tanginess to it and was pretty moist. On the negative, I wasn’t so keen on the homemade gravy I made with the broth from the pot (it was just too fruity for my taste).
I liked the turkey! Countin’ on you for next year too! 😉
