Today I was seriously rethinking some of my criticism of the administration and the rest of the powers that be (particularly after reading the thoughts of Okiedoke, but then I read this editorial from the New Orleans Times-Picayune (thanks go to Looka for pointing out this piece) and I feel like I was dead on the money. America failed New Orleans.

I too was instantly blaming the president, but when you examine what happened in New York on 9/11 and how the local government reacted and handled the disaster I am amazed at just how poorly, and really criminally, the local government in new Orleans and Louisiana reacted and still reacts.
If it where that the governor requested immediate assistance from our federal government as well Mayor Nagin doing the same then I see the federal government has dramatically failed the people.
But this was not the case from what I can find.
The entire focus is on the president in this and certainly there is reason to look at him for some fault but I dont think simply blaming the federal government is fair. Ultimately the local state government is who really failed the people, and certainly things have gone down from there.
